Cancer Research Technology’s (CRT) Ximbio is a website for sharing research tools with the global life science community. Scientists can exchange knowledge and maximise commercial opportunities for research tools they have created. Our mission is to make these tools widely and easily available to accelerate life science research.

The Ximbio team is responsible for the proactive commercialisation of research tools and diagnostic materials produced by Cancer Research UK (CRUK) funded research programmes and works with over 40 other academic research institutes globally to promote and commercialise their research reagents.

Job Purpose:

This is an exciting opportunity to join the team; the post holder will report to the Head of Business Development and Portfolio Management and will be responsible for the processing of sales orders, the completion of Material Transfer Agreements (MTAs) and the provision of support as an administrator of the team’s internal databases. 

Principal Activities:

  • Processing of sales orders from Ximbio’s clients, from the receipt of a purchase order to the shipping of materials and subsequent invoicing by engaging with CRUK’s finance teams.
  • Liaising with Ximbio’s lab team to communicate any manufacturing requirements in order to fulfil orders and maintain an active stock of products
  • Physical sourcing of research reagents from academics depositing on Ximbio
  • Database administrator; support the team by;
    • Providing support and training
      • Adding new users on to the system
      • Uploading of technical data to Ximbio’s databases and website
      • Performing bulk uploads and creating new fields for the capturing of technical information
      • Generating reports for the team on a regular and an ad-hoc basis
    • Managing and maintaining any required system improvements
      • Monitoring database efficiency
      • Sustaining the security and integrity of data
      • Maintains quality service by establishing and enforcing organisation standards.
      • Ongoing database administration and development to meet business needs.
      • Liaise with CRT IT to ensure that database is updated
      • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; benchmarking state-of-the-art practices; participating in professional societies.
    • Processing of Material Transfer Agreement requests to allow research reagents to be made available to academics.

Knowledge/Experience:

  • You will have a minimum of a BSc in life sciences.  You will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the commercial application of hybridoma cell lines and other research tools such as transgenic mice, cell lines and small molecules; practical experience in a life science discipline using any of these tools would be beneficial. You will have extensive experience of Excel, be comfortable using advance functions such as vlookup, writing macros and database administration.
