Ximbio Product Manager

Ximbio is a website to exchange knowledge and trade reagents such as mouse models, antibodies, cell lines and small molecules. It is also a marketplace to maximise commercial opportunities for these tools. Our mission is to unify the life science community to make research tools widely available and accelerate research.

Job Purpose:

Product and brand manager for the Ximbio business unit and website; the role involves development of Ximbio’s strategic marketing plans and the coordination and delivery of tactical marketing activities to help raise the profile of the brand and engage existing and potential users. You will take responsibility for the ongoing development of the website, incorporating new features and functionality based on feedback from colleagues, your industry experience and your interaction with both Ximbio users and non users. You must possess a unique blend of business and technical savvy; a big-picture vision, and the drive to make that vision a reality. You must enjoy spending time meeting and speaking to users, our community to understand its problems, and find or create innovative solutions to meet their, and the broader market, needs. You will coordinate Ximbio communications and have an in-depth understanding of the product positioning, key benefits, and target customers. You will also serve as the internal and external evangelist for the Ximbio product offering. This role will be strategic and tactical.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing and promoting the Ximbio brand to internal and external stakeholders
  • Managing the entire new website features and functionality life cycle from strategic planning to tactical activities. Working with the internal Ximbio Dev-Ops Manager and an external website development and UX agency to deliver the updates.
  • Specifying market requirements for current and future website features and functionality by conducting market research supported by on-going dialogue with key stakeholders and personas.
  • Communication with all areas of the Ximbio team and across CRT, Cancer Research UK as necessary.
  • Management and tactical implementation of the User Acceptance Testing.
  • Developing and implementing a product and branding annual marketing plan, working with all departments, plus 3rd party suppliers, to execute the tactical activities
  • Creatively drive digital marketing through social media channels such as ResearchGate, LinkedIn, twitter, Periscope etc
  • Website content marketing via newsletters, email and blogs
  • SEO development and measurement in conjunction with in-house expertise
  • Training the team on new functions in the website
  • Ownership of the operations manual
  • Assess and evaluate competitive landscape – including product offerings
  • Analyzing potential partner/collaborative relationships

Knowledge and Experience

  • Significant experience of software marketing/product management in a life sciences environment.
  • Life sciences BSc, MSc or PhD
  • Outstanding written and verbal communications skills.
  • Track record in launching and managing scientifically based products and services.
  • Strong leadership skills within cross functional teams; a demonstrated leader through influence with strong negotiation skills
  • Is customer-centric and keenly aware of markets, trends and competitors
  • Is authentic, transparent and leads by example, holding self and others accountable
  • Organized with strong project management skills
  • Demonstrates a sense of urgency, contagious optimism and a “can do” attitude
  • Inspires, motivates and collaborates with others; team-first attitude
  • Stretches across borders, breaks silos and builds effective partnerships with customers and colleagues
  • Experience of working in an agile environment would be beneficial.
  • Experience of evaluating performance against agreed KPIs
  • Knowledge of key life science conferences, events and publications
  • Experience of developing and implementing email marketing campaigns
