Relevance | SNF2L is a human homolog of the budding yeast Snf2 protein, and is a member of the SWI/SNF family of proteins. The members of this family have helicase and ATPase activities and are thought to regulate transcription of certain genes by altering the chromatin structure around those genes. SNF2L is similar in sequence to the Drosophila ISWI chromatin remodelling protein. In mouse SNF2L expression is restricted to the central nervous system and gonadal tissue. Whereas in human SNF2L is expressed ubiquitously, and regulation is mediated by isoform variation. |
