Relevance | Band III is a protein associated with the surface membrane of red blood cells and their precursors. It is the major glycoprotein of the erythrocyte membrane and mediates exchange of chloride and bicarbonate across the phospholipid bilayer and plays a central role in respiration of carbon dioxide. Band III is also a potential binding site for haemoglobin. |
