Antigen/Gene or Protein Targets | Extra small virus-like particles (XSV) |
Reactivity | Virus |
Relevance |
Virus-like particles are molecules that closely resemble viruses, but are non-infectious because they contain no viral genetic material. Extra small virus‐like particles (XSV) have always been found associated with the larger viruses (eg nodavirus) and are located in muscle and connective cells of diseased animals. XSV's could be an autonomous virus, a helper‐type virus or a satellite‐like virus. XSV's were reported in the giant freshwater prawn Macrobrachium rosenbergii. This is one of the most economically important farmed palaemonids in the world. A virus-borne white tail disease (WTD) was caused by M. rosenbergii nodavirus (MrNV), and also alongside the MrNV was a small icosahedral non-enveloped virus, of 25 nm in diameter. This virus-like particle was an extra small virus (XSV) and was icosahedral in shape and 15 nm in diameter. The antibody is for diagnostic and research applications. |
