CLEC16A gene has been linked to several autoimmune diseases, including Addison's disease, diabetes melllitus, Crohn's disease, primary biliary cirrhosis, juvenile idiopathic arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and multiple sclerosis. . CLEC16A has been shown to regulate various immune pathways including directly regulating leukocyte antigen class II pathway in antigen presenting cells, autophagy, mitophagy, and NK cell cytotoxicity.
